Glyn Roberts has been Chief Executive of Retail NI from January 2008 after serving seven years as Head of Parliamentary Affairs with the Federation of Small Businesses in Northern Ireland.

Established in 2000, Retail NI is the only business organisation which represents the independent retail sector in Northern Ireland at every level of government. With a 1,800 strong membership including wholesalers, independent retailers of all kinds, suppliers to the sector and affiliated chambers of commerce and local traders’ groups.

1.       What is the best thing about your current job? 

It is great to have the ability to make a difference to our members and help steer our industry in the right direction.

2.       What was your first job in the hospitality/foodservice industry?

I cut my teeth as a sales assistant in Dunnes Stores. That’s where I learnt early skills in the industry, and I knew I enjoyed working with people.

3.       Who has been your biggest influence during your career?

My old English teacher had a real positive affect on me.

4.       What key piece of advice would you give the future generation of hospitality professionals? Seize the day!

5.       What is your favourite restaurant or type of food?

My favourite at the minute is Deans Meatlocker. Perfect food and fantastic service.

6.       What is your favourite dish? 

You can’t beat a freshly cooked Ribeye Steak with all the trimmings.

7.       What is your favourite drink?

It has to be a pint of Guinness

8.       What or who are you looking forward most to see or meet at IFEX 22?

I am looking forward to networking and seeing some familiar faces within the industry. It’s been a long time coming and it will be great to all be under one roof again!
