What is the World Butchers' Challenge?

The World Butchers' Challenge was created to develop an environment where butchers strive to exceed current industry practice in the areas of general workmanship, meat cutting, displaying and creativity!

Who is competing this year?

The 2018 World Butchers’ Challenge is set to host twelve teams from across the globe: Australia, Bulgaria, Brazil, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Itrly, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA.

What does the competition involve?

The competition takes place over three hours and fifteen minutes with teams given a beef side, a side of pork, a full lamb carcass and five chickens. Teams are allowed to provide their own seasonings, spices marinades and garnish to finish product and can bring props like plates, bowls, signage etc.

Independent judges - one from each country competing - will judge and score the team based on butchery skill, innovation, overall finish and display.

What are the timings for 2018?

The World Butchers' Challenge 2018 takes place during Meat@IFEX. Juniors will compete on Tuesday 20 March and seniors on Wednesday 21 March.
